PSG vs Marseille: Preview, Team News, Likely Lineups, And Prediction

Marseille will have nothing to lose when they visit Paris Saint-Germain to play in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France.

After beating Marseille by 3-0 in the Ligue 1 last night, PSG will host the same opponent on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the French Cup.

Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani were on the scoresheet for the Paris side while Marseille’s Rolando scored one goal in his own net.

Marseille were one goal down inside ten minutes of the game as Kylian Mbappe scored for the home side following a blunder from left back Jordan Amavi inside the box. PSG were two goals up in the 28th minute after Neymar’s flick was directed into the net by Rolando while trying to block the ball.

Edinson Cavani made it 3-0 in the second half of the match to seal the victory for the league leaders. However, the talking point of yesterday’s match was Neymar’s injury who was stretched out of the field by the medical staff in the 80th minute after injuring himself after a challenge from Bouna Sarr.

The Brazilian superstar is said to be out for the Champions League second leg fixture against Real Madrid. The game also saw the most cards in a single match this season. Referee Benoit Bastien reached his pocket for 11 times during the game. (Six yellow cards for PSG, five for Marseille)

PSG are currently leading the league with 71 points from 27 matches. Whereas their counterparts are third in the Ligue 1 with 55 points. Unai Emery’s side defeated Sochaux by 4- to reach the quarter-finals whereas Marseille won against the Ligue 2 side Bourg en Bresse Peronnas by the huge scoreline of 9-0 away from home.

PSG vs Marseille Prediction

PSG will not be the same attacking force without Neymar. But they’ve still got quality players in their team who can play in that position. Rudi Garcia’s team should perform much better than last night if they want to book their place in the semi-finals of the French Cup.
