Mid-table side Leganes host Spanish giants Real Madrid this Wednesday in La Liga as the defending Champions look to avenge their Copa Del Rey exit at the hands of their local rivals.
Leganes and Real met in the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey earlier this season. The home side progressed through to the semis on away goals after the tie ended on an aggregate score of 2-2.
Asier Garitano’s Leganes lost 3-0 against Girona, last Saturday, in their last league game. This was their third consecutive loss in all competitions and second straight defeat in the Liga. The Los Pepineros have not scored a single goal in their last four games in all competitions, having conceded six goals in those games.
After stunning Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey last month, Garitano’s men have won just one of their six games in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid won 3-5 at Real Betis last Sunday, in their previous league game. This was the third consecutive win in all competitions for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
An even impressive thing about the Blancos is their sensational 3-1 win over PSG in the Champions League. Madrid were expected by many to lose the game against the Parisians, but it is in their DNA to deliver excellent games when needed. This emphatic victory has clearly rejuvenated the Zidane’s side; so Leganes must give their 101% if they are to take anything against Real.
Talking about their recent form, Los Blancos are unbeaten in the last five games in all competitions, winning four. Madrid have scored 19 goals in the process averaging just under four goals per game. However, they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last seven games in all competitions.
After an excellent start to the season, Leganes have lost their early season momentum and fallen off the pace in La Liga. Garitano’s side who spent the majority of the first half of the season in the top half of the league table, currently find themselves in the 13th position in the table after managing to win just two league games since the start of January.
Leganes have managed 29 points from 23 matches played in the league so far. They have won eight, drawn five and lost ten games in the league this season. Garitano’s men have scored just 20 goals in the league this season, only two teams have scored fewer goals in the Spanish top division. At the other end, they have conceded 25 league goals this campaign, only three teams have let in fewer goals in the La Liga.
Real Madrid are currently fourth in the league table having managed 45 points from 23 matches played in the league so far. They have won 13, drawn six and lost four games in the league this campaign. Zidane’s men have scored 55 goals in the league so far, only rivals Barcelona have scored more in the division.
With regard to the high standards Los Blancos set for themselves, they have undoubtedly underachieved this season. However, their recent mini-revival, with the win against a Champions League favorite, might just be the kick start they need going into the rest of the season.
Madrid can climb above Valencia who are currently third, with a win over the home side.
In the previous four meetings between these two sides in all competitions, Real Madrid have won three times, and Leganes have won just one game. Ronaldo and co. did the league double over Leganes last season scoring at least three goals in each game.
Alexander Szymanowski and Dos Santos Mauro are back in training after getting over their respective injury concerns.
Darko Brasanac is out with a shoulder injury. Goal-keeper Serantes, who has not played a game this season, is out with shoulder injury.
Toni Kroos is out with a sprained knee. He is expected to be back in the first week of March. Left-back Marcelo came off after playing just 30 minutes in the first half due to a hamstring injury. The Brazilian is unlikely to feature on Wednesday.
Zidane is likely to give this star man Cristiano Ronaldo a breather; so Asensio would play from the beginning.

Leganes vs Real Madrid Prediction
Leganes have been in awful form in recent weeks whereas, Real Madrid have strung a series of positive results. Not being able to keep a clean sheet is still a concern for Zinedine Zidane and his men.
However, Leganes are a low scoring team, and they do not offer a great deal of attacking threats.
Our prediction for this game is Real Madrid to win 2-0.
