Leganes Vs Eibar: Preview, Team News, Likely Lineups, And Prediction
Leganes were into the semi-finals of the Copa Del Rey for the first time in their history, but the fairy-tale run is now over after Sevilla beat them in the mid-week.
Leganes host European hopeful Eibar on match-day 23 of the La Liga 2017/18. Estadio Municipal de Butraque will entertain the match, which features the teams separated only by three points in the league table.
The Legionarios were able to pick up a point away from when in their La Liga clash against Getafe last week. The game finished 0-0, but the game was quite entertaining for people fan of the dirty side of the game.
The referee awarded a total of 37 fouls in the game, 20 against Leganes and 17 against home side Getafe. The game also saw eight players get their names in the referee’s book with six players from the Leganes side getting a yellow card.
Leganes still have a game in hand against Real Madrid. They are currently twelfth in the league after collecting twenty-nine points from twenty-one games.
The hosts have a strong defensive unit in place which has seen them concede exactly a goal per game, better than most top half teams. It’s the output in the final third of attack that’s letting them down. Twenty goals in the league so far at less than a goal every game is quite worrying for the club and Asier Garitano hopes that his forwards could start firing for his team.
Eibar didn’t have a mid-week Copa Del Rey clash and come to this game on the back of a fresh win over Sevilla in the league. The win was not much of a shock considering their good form at home, but the fashion in which the dispatched the league giants is worth the praise.
Eibar stole the shoe in last week’s meeting with Sevilla, winning the match 5-1. Surprisingly, this is not the first time the Los Armeros have scored five; they had beaten Betis 5-0 earlier this season.
Eibar are now only one point behind Sevilla, who sit sixth in the league table. Eibar has aspirations of playing in the European competition next season, and with such excellent displays, they might as well qualify for the Europa League.
Mendilibar’s men have netted thirty-one league goals this season but have conceded thirty-four times so far. Eibar’s season has been inconsistent at times, able to outscore some teams massively but also being outscored on other occasions.
Leganes will be without winger Alexander Szymanowski and center back Mauro Dos Santos. Both are suffering from muscle problems and have missed 19 games in between them.
Joseba Zaldua is suspended for the game having accumulated five yellow cards already this season.
Gabriel Pires is undoubtedly the guy to watch for Leganes with the Brazilian bagging five goals from the center of the midfield.
Central Midfielder hasn’t featured for the club since February of last year because of a knee injury. Similarly, winger Pedro Leon is yet to play a single minute of this season’s Liga Santander.
Center forward Sergi Enrich is sidelined till May because of a meniscus tear while Paulo Oliveira is out of the game following a tear in the muscle fiber.
The most recent meeting between the clubs was in a club friendly in which Leganes won 2-0 at home. But in the league, Eibar holds the upper hand, unbeaten in league play in five matches between the clubs.
