32 nations will be waving their flags proud and loud in football’s biggest event next summer in Russia. The qualification is over, and we already know the pots where the teams lie. Now, it’s time to choose who will face who in the Group according to their pot and for that, the world cup 2018 draw will take place today.

World Cup 2018 Draw: Place

The draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup 2018 group stage takes place at the State Kremlin Palace, Moscow.

Two times World Cup participant, Gary Lineker will host the draw alongside Russian Sports Journalist, Maria Komandnaya. The pair will be assisted on the stage by the likes of Diego Maradona, Carles Puyol, Laurent Blanc, Cafu, Gordon Banks, Fabio Cannavaro, Diego Forlan, and Nikita Simonyan.

The draw is scheduled for today, i.e., 1st December 2017 with events starting at 3 pm GMT,10:00 ET, 02:00 AEDT.

World Cup 2018 Draw: How does it work?

For the first time, FIFA world rankings determine the seeding for all four pots. There will be eight teams in every four different pots. Along with the host, Russia, seven other teams who had the highest FIFA ranking as of October 2017 are seeded in pot 1.

Likewise, Pot 2 includes the next eight highest ranked teams with Pot 3 covering the next eight and finally last eight lowest ranked teams in Pot 4.

A single nation from each pot will be drawn to make eight groups (A-H) of four team each. Except for UEFA teams, no two teams from the same confederation will be drawn in the same group. While a group can have up to two UEFA teams as 14 out of 32 nations are from UEFA confederation, and there are only eight groups to spare.
