Australia vs. Honduras
2018 World Cup Qualifier Leg 2
Venue: Sydney Olympic Park, ANZ Stadium
Australia’s chances of appearing in the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia hinge on a single match at their home against Honduras.
Match Preview: Australia Vs. Honduras
Australia or Honduras, there can be only one nation in next year’s FIFA world cup as they will battle out each other in the 2nd leg of the world cup qualification final match. Having drawn the first leg in Honduras, it is all to play for these both teams at the ANZ stadium.
The Socceroos dominated the first leg but was unlucky to return home from San Pedro Sula with only a 0-0 draw. But still, the first leg result is on the Australian side, and they are now favorites to book their place in Russia next year.
Despite the poor condition of Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano, Australia demonstrated total domination over Honduras who were quite nervous and unconvincing in their own backyard. Tom Juric missed a couple of golden chances to put Australia firmly on the driving sit in the first leg, and the referee made some unlikely calls that hindered the Australian side. Aaron Mooy and Massimo Luongo were absolutely killing in the flank, and it seems like the Honduras national team had no concrete strategy to play against the Socceroos.
Frankly, it’s inevitable that Honduras reached the play-offs someway unconvincingly, but if they want to fancy any chance of joining the elite teams in next year’s mega event, they have to show up their A-game against the confident Australian side not what they ‘ve demonstrated in the first leg.
Honduras will surely concede possession, but they have an opportunity to score an away goal in a counter-attack which has been the weak link of this Australian team. Things are in favor of the Socceroos, but if they concede an away goal, the game might get tricky for them.

The biggest relief came for Australia after Tim Cahill declared himself fit over his ankle injury. The greatest ever scorer for Australia took no part in the first leg due to injury but declared himself fit soon enough. Mark Milligan and Mathew Leckie return for the Socceroos having being suspended in the first leg is another boosting news for them. Ange Postecoglou is expected to have some changes in the lineup, and we might see some of the old-guards starting tomorrow in a 3-2-4-1 formation.

Prediction: Australia Vs Honduras
This match is of Australia to lose now. Having dominated on such a mess of a pitch in Honduras, the Socceroos are expected to once again dominate the match with ball possession and attack. With big names returning for the match, I will go with Australia 2-0 Honduras.
