Villarreal vs Alaves: Preview, Prediction, Team News, And Lineup
Villarreal missed their chance of eclipsing Real Madrid from the fourth position in the league table after they lost to Real Betis.
Villarreal are set to welcome Deportivo Alaves this weekend in the Liga Santander. Estadio de la Ceramica will host the match on Saturday, 10th of February.
The game will kick off exactly at noon and will be officiated by Alfonso Alvarez.
Villarreal missed their chance of eclipsing Real Madrid from the fourth position in the league table after they lost to Real Betis. Real Madrid had drawn their league game against Levante and Villarreal could have jumped to fourth in the standings.
The Yellow Submarines left Estadio Benito Villamarin without any points which marked their first loss in seven La Liga matches. Two goals from forward Loren Moron were enough for the Green and the Whites as Betis secured a 2-1 win over Villarreal.
The result sees them stay in the fifth position, two points off Real Madrid and three points off third place Valencia. Villarreal were on the back of an excellent run of form coming into the match with their last 6 games resulting in 16 points from a possible 18.
Alaves registered only their seventh win in this league campaign after the victory against Celta Vigo last weekend. This win was their first in five games in all competition and should be a kick starter to avoid relegation.
El Glorioso have now jumped to sixteenth in the league and thus find themselves five points above the relegation zone. They have collected 22 points so far this season and at this rate they might just avoid the drop to the Segunda Division.
Javi Calleja’s Villarreal have made la Ceramica their hunting ground as they have registered six wins and two draws in ten games played at the stadium. They were without a point with only table-toppers Barcelona, and Sevilla. They have recorded two consecutive wins in their previous two home matches.
Abelardo has seen his side only win two games on the road this season. Out of the ten games, played away from the home soil, Alaves have been defeated in eight. The Blue and the Whites have won only one of their last six away matches.
Villarreal has been dealt a big blow because of injuries to their first-team players. A total of six players could miss the game against Alaves.
Club captain Bruno Soriano hasn’t played a single match for the club this season alongside goalkeeper Andres Fernandez. Ruben Semedo is out because of muscular injury and left back Adrian Marin has hamstring problems.
Sansone is back in training for the club, but Daniele Bonera will not feature in the match having picked up a straight red in the game against Betis.
Abelardo will be unable to call upon the services of two of his left-sided players. Left-back Hector Hernandez is recovering from Malleolar injury while left winger Burgui has a tear in his abductor’s muscle.
Mukarak Wasako will be available for selection after serving his suspension in the game against Celta Vigo. Munir El Haddadi is starting on the road pick up form as the Spaniard, who is on loan from Barcelona has netted four goals in all competition since the turn of the year.
Head to Head
The Yellow Submarines thrashed Deportivo Alaves 3-0 when they were on road earlier this season. Bakambu, who scored two goals in that game, has been transferred to Chinese Super League.
The last five meetings between the clubs have resulted in two wins for both the sides and a draw.
