Real Madrid are a European powerhouse, and they will claim with good arguments that they are the best club in the world. However, after securing back to back Champions League, things do not look too good for them at the moment. They are languishing at the 4th position in the table with a 14 points gap between them and FC Barcelona with a game in hand. To be so far adrift at January is totally unlike Madrid and also having been paired with PSG in the round of 16 of the Champions League after finishing 2nd in the group below Tottenham, things do not look too optimistic there either.
So, what has been their problems this season? Experts, pundits and fans alike hint at the injury to Bale, the wastefulness of Benzema and lack of genuine world class goalkeeper at their disposal for their ongoing woes in the football field.
So, here we present some of the transfer targets that Real Madrid will look at to strengthen their already envious squad :
1. Kepa Arrizabalaga
He may not exactly be a Galactico signing, but he is a young and an incredibly talented goalkeeper who can undoubtedly help Real Madrid’s cause this season. Rumors have it that he will be arriving in Madrid as soon as this January after agreement with Athletic Bilbao will have taken place. His contract expires at the end of the season, but Real are looking to snap him up as soon as possible and thus address their goalkeeping shortcomings.
2. Thibaut Courtois
David De Gea has always been mooted as the big name goalkeeper that will eventually arrive in Madrid, but it is looking extremely likely that in fact his premier league counterpart, Thibaut Courtois, will be arriving at the club come next season. The rumor has stemmed from the report that Courtois is declining the contract extension offer made by Chelsea since he is longing for the move to Real. Real, for their part, are keen on signing yet another world class keeper even if Kepa arrives and Courtois perfectly fit their bill and is more likely to join them next summer.
3. Alvaro Odrizoala
Odrizoala has impressed massively playing at right-back for Real Sociedad and has been linked to both Barcelona and Real Madrid. He is just 22 years old, and Madrid see him as the long-term right back of their own after Dani Carvajal. And thus, he remains their key transfer target this summer.
4. David Luiz
Real Madrid are weighing up making a January move for Chelsea defender David Luiz, according to the Daily Telegraph. Luiz has fallen out with Blues manager Antonio Conte in recent weeks, meaning he could be available for transfer this winter. And Madrid are keen to bolster their defense after an inconsistent start to the season and seeing the lack of quality in depth of Real in the centre back position, Luiz seems a practical and a realistic transfer target.
5. Eden Hazard
Zidane has long been a great admirer of Eden Hazard’s abilities even from his time at Lille, and he has remained a primary transfer target for quite an extended period now. Frequent injury to Bale and the declining age of Ronaldo also make him the primary transfer target for Real. And it is speculated that he will be the subject of $120 million bid in the summer. Although Chelsea are reluctant to let go of their star man, they may be forced to sell him due to player’s desire and since he has been reportedly declining new contract offers from Chelsea to have his options wide open.
6. Harry Kane
After a long run of ordinary performances from Karim Benzema, Madrid now are looking at the market in search of an elite class striker to replace him. And who better than Harry Kane? He is young, hungry, consistent and lethal. And he remains a primary transfer target for Real Madrid.
Securing his services though won’t indeed be easy as Spurs are not looking to let go of Kane at any prices whatsoever. But as Pochettino recently stated that if Kane longs for a move, then Madrid may have to shell out the best part of 200 million dollars to sign him. Such a high price tag, however, won’t deter Madrid, and Harry Kane remains a vital transfer target in the summer.
7. Mohamed Salah
Salah has been in blistering form this season, and this has drawn admiring glances from teams all across Europe including Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid manager. Indeed the annoying and recurring injury concerns of Gareth Bale does highlight the need for a world class right winger and Salah perfectly fits that bill. With a terrifying pace, ability to go past and beyond defenders and a keen eye for goal, Salah is an important transfer target for Real Madrid.
8. Paulo Dybala
Paulo Dybala is the next great superstar emerging through the ranks of Juventus who has long been talked up as the possible best player of the future alongside Neymar. The diminutive Argentine shares many traits similar to his international compatriot, dare we say it, Lionel Messi. Indeed Dybala is short, has a low center of gravity, a keen eye for a pass and a lethal shot. And it is for this firepower and superstar ability that he has attracted keen interest from the Real Madrid. And Dybala will no doubt improve the current striking options of Real, and hence he remains a crucial transfer target of Madrid this summer.
