Top Five Goalkeepers In The World Right Now

We try and present most of the football fans views on who have been the best goal keepers so far this season(2017/2018) in the Europe's best leagues.

Every great side depends upon one of the best goalkeepers of their own and almost all elite football teams boast a top goalkeeper comparable to an immovable force between their posts. And rightly so because their have been many outstanding goalkeeping so far this season. But who have been the best so far this season?

5. Ederson Moraes (Manchester City)

Aside from a recent wobble against Liverpool, Ederson has been a revelation this season playing for Pep Guardiola. Given that even a seasoned veteran like Bravo has struggled to cope with the Premier League and even more from the Pep’s way of playing, it is even more impressive the job Ederson has done in England. He has got wand of a left foot for a goalkeeper and has literally played like a midfielder between the goal posts.
Ederson Moraes

The Brazilian has made an impressive 605 passes in the league along with 88 accurate long balls. It is indeed a remarkable statistics and one of the main reason why City have been so successful this term. Ederson picks passes and starts the attack right from the back which is a rare attribute in goalkeepers and the one which has been sought after by so many coaches now realizing the importance of having an extra reliable body to play the ball out.

The rise of the Brazilian from an unknown goalie to one of the top goalkeepers in the world has been very subtle, and yet amazing.

But it is not just his ability with the ball that is grabbing the headlines. He has been equally impressive off the ball pulling many important saves thus far this season. The save that immediately springs in mind when talking about £35 million man is is the double save against Manchester United from point-blank range, which got his team the victory, and also the crucial penalty saves against Napoli in a tense Champions League match.

Also the 12-yard save against the Crystal Palace that kept City from being defeated is worth noting. He has been a calm and assured presence behind the City backline and a chief catalyst of an impressive City rear guard. And he surely deserves to be in this list of the best goalkeepers for his outstanding season thus far.

4. Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan)

The inclusion of Handanovic may raise a few eyebrows especially given that he is not very popular among the football fans. However, he has absolutely merited his inclusion in this list. The Slovenian is having a phenomenal season this year. Handanovic has always been a top goalkeeper and  for that regard very underrated among the fans. But this year he has performed even better.
Samir Handanovic

Handanovic has recorded the save percentage of 80 this season and has conceded just 16 goals in the process in the league. He has been the ever reliable presence in the box and an important component of one of the meanest defense in Europe. He has an incredible reflex which has helped him save many shots.

Maurio Icardi has the major responsibility in scoring goals in this Inter side but the one man who has been equally as impressive comes from other side of the pitch who has an unforgiving task of keeping the opposition attackers at bay. And fair to say, Samir Handanovic has done that with aplomb and in some style; the reason why he makes our list. We go as far as to say that the Inter Milan savior is the top goalkeeper in the Serie A this season.

3. Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)

Atletico have not been quite firing on all cylinders when it comes to attack this season. But still you have to say they are doing pretty well in the league. The main reason being their impenetrable defense and more so their 1.89 m tall wall Jan Oblak. Oblak might as well be Atletico Madrid’s player of the season so far which suggest he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has been frequently called into action this season and oh boy, has he responded in style.
Jan Oblak

Oblak has a save percentage of 83.87 this season. The Atletico no. 1 has kept whopping 58 clean sheets in his 100 games for Atletico. Can you believe it?An astonishing 58 clean sheets in 100 games which puts even the mighty ex-Atletico’s No.1 s De Gea and Courtois in the shade. And 2017/18 has been yet another season in which he has proved that he belongs to a select few group of elite goalkeepers in the world football. He is, in fact unlucky to not have been ranked higher in our list of the best goalkeepers.

2. David De Gea (Manchester United)

I know when many of you guys read De Gea as second ranked in our list and not the first, you will be saying this is not justifed and that De gea should be the first. Trust us for our reasons but this also proves what a phenomenal player he is. Maybe, some of you can rightly say, he is one of the finest there ever has been.
David De Gea

De Gea is one hell of a goalkeeper and he has been devilish again this season for Manchester United. His shot-stopping ability is unparalleled to anyone else and he has proved it time and again this season. He has recorded an incredible 90.91 save percentage this season.

He has won quite a few points for United on his own; the quite clear proof being the incredible game he has had against Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton to name a few. De Gea comes in the league of his own when he has to make saves and he has had to make good amount of saves courtesy of shaky United back line.

The Spaniard’s one-man-army shows have saved United in many occasions, and so many footballers have suggested that De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, even the best goalkeeper in the world.

And there he has showed how truly great he is, sometimes keeping clean sheets single-handedly on his own. Indeed, he has kept the league high 14 clean sheets and conceded the lowest 16 goals in the Premier League and many of those has been purely down to his brilliance. United might as well have been scrapping for the 4th placed finish had it not been for him but lucky for them because of him they still think they are in for the title battle. He is indeed unlucky that we think there is one other goalkeeper who has been better than him this season.

1. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (Barcelona)

When Ter Stegen first started playing for Barcelona, few would have foreseen him to be emerging as the brightest goalkeeper in the world. But such has been the meteoric rise of the Blaugrana shot-stopper that he is now widely considered among the best goalkeepers in the world. Especially, this season has been so magnificent for him that he has even usurped infallible De gea as our no.1 this season so far.

Ter Stegen is the most complete goal keeper in the world alongside the injured Manuel Neuer. While De Gea is maybe better in terms of pure shot-stopping, Ter Stegen is probably better overall or at least so in this season. His feet and passing ability is impeccable and even better than the likes of Ederson and Neuer and so many of Barca’s attacks starts from him.
Ter Stegen

The German is so good with his foot that he looks like that he can even play as a Barca midfielder and that is quite a compliment. His calmness is personified and his composure is inspirational.

But with all those ball playing attributes what people often tend to forget is what a phenomenal shot-stopper he is. He is probably the best in the world when it comes to 1 v 1 versus the strikers making himself very big and very difficult to score against. He had a wonderful game against Griezzman of Atletico and also against Real Madrid to recall a few.

After one game against Juventus in the Champions League, Lucas Digne did not hold back when he said that Ter Stegen is the best goalkeeper in the world. So good he has been this season that he fills us with joy playing even from the goalkeeping position.

His position as our No. 1 can be justified by the fact that he has conceded just nine goals in La Liga so far and already recorded 13 clean sheets in only 20 matches. His stats easily suggest that he is the best goalkeeper in the world right now. And, the crown for the best goalkeeper this season is taken by the young German, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
